WHITE CUBE

Referencing Brian O'Doherty's theories on the White Cube, this sculpture questions its need for self-reflection on the ideals it maintains and perpetuates.

THE MODERN PANOPTICON

The Modern Panopticon is an interactive observation booth that invites the viewer to sit as an authoritative observer of the gallery space through a variety of 'looking holes'. However, the watcher is also observed from outside the booth through a live CCTV camera, projected as its own exhibit in the very gallery space they are looking at. This replication of the unavoidable gaze aims to recreate the conditions of today's world where observation is inevitable. The piece questions the power hierarchy of observation and control; who here retains power - the observer, or the observers observing the observed?
